Mental Health: What and why ?

Mental Health. What is it? Mental Health is our emotional, psychological, and social well being. Our mental health affects how we act, think, and feel. Mental health also determines how we handle stressful situations, react to other people, and things.

Mental Health is essential, and it's just as important as physical health. It's important from childhood to adolescence through adulthood.

Many factors contribute to mental health problems such as genes or brain chemistry, trauma or abuse, family history of mental health problems.

Mental health problems are not always clear.

There are some signs though such as:

  • Eating little or too much;

  • Having low or no energy;

  • Feeling numb or like nothing matters;

  • Feeling helpless or hopeless; and many more.

Mental health and mental illnesses are not the same things. A person can experience poor mental health and not be diagnosed with a mental illness.
