Your favorite celebrity may be problematic...

Lately, many celebrities have been pointed out as problematic by the media. Here are a few well-known celebrities that have caused some controversy

Justin Bieber

Starting his fame at a very young age, Justin Bieber grew up with all eyes on him. Throughout his stardom, Bieber has been open about many of his viewpoints such as he thinks homosexuality is a choice: “It’s everyone’s own decision to do that. It doesn’t affect me and shouldn’t affect anyone else.”

His views on abortion and rape have also stirred up trouble with the media. “I really don’t believe in abortion. I think [an embryo] is a human. It’s like killing a baby. [In the case of rape], I think that’s really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don’t know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven’t been in that position, so I wouldn’t be able to judge that.”

Miley Cyrus

Disney Channel star, now a world-famous singer, has also said and done many controversial things in the past. She has been known for culturally appropriating many things, such as bindis, the Nazar, and sugar skulls.

In 2011, Cyrus named her concert tour “G*psy Heart Tour” which is considered a slur and is very offensive to many people. She has also mocked an Asian man’s eye shape and body shamed on Twitter “Put a girl with a booty then a girl shaped like a boy in front of a man & that's all the research you need BOO!!!!”

James Charles

James Charles is a famous makeup YouTuber who has released makeup palettes and is widely known across social media. Although he is widely known, Charles has been canceled many times, and he took the hardest hit in his career earlier this year when two men claimed that Charles had been talking to them knowing that they were underage.

The allegations were supported by screenshots of flirty messages from Charles, but he claimed that the two men had told him that they were both 18. However, this is not the first scandal that James Charles has been in, involving minors. With his most recent claim, he apologized on youtube, following with a social media break

J.K. Rowling

J.K. Rowling is the author of the Harry Potter book series and has risen to fame for creativity and talents. However, Rowling was canceled for being transphobic. She took to Twitter responding to an article called “Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate.”

J.K. Rowling’s Tweet: “‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure they're

used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?”

Sia

Sia is a singer who became very popular in 2014 after releasing her album, 1000 Forms of Fear. She faced major backlash when she became involved with a film that surrounded her movie, Music.

The film was about an autistic teenager that Twitter has deemed to be offensive and inaccurate. Many have also said that it is ableist and portrays autism in an incorrect way.
