On September 3rd, 2020 someone had gone and hurt black lives matter protestors at Time Square, New York. They were there to protest the death of Daniel Prude who had died of suffocation. The protestors believe the incident was intentional, unlike how the police believe it was. It is important to know that the person has been questioned, but has not faced charges as of September 8th, 2020. To first understand the incident it’s important to be informed about the death of Daniel Prude.
Mr.Prude’s death technically happened a week after the incident after his family agreed to take him off of life support. What initially happened the week before was that Prude had been high off PCP which can cause hallucinations, he was shouting that he had COVID-19 while running naked. Once the police officers go there they put them under arrest in which he started spitting at them.
They put a bag over his head to stop him from spitting, his head was put down in which he suffocated after two minutes.
Now on to the Times Square incident, to state it blankly a man had rammed into a crowd of BLM protestors, whom some of them were using bicycles. The car was black, with tinted windows, with the attacker speeding after the crown and speeding off afterwords. Around 200 supporters rallied there to protest Daniel Prude’s death. This was all a little bit after eight pm, but before that, the police did tell the driver to go around the protestors, which they did not follow. Both the NYPD and Fire Department reported no calls over the incident. The car was identified as a Ford Taurus and was linked to Pro-Police activist Hakim Gibson.
